Key Tasks and Responsibilities              

The European Space Agency’s Strategic Foresight & Planning Office supports the definition of the ESA-wide strategy and is responsible for:

  • Organising and ensuring the availability of futures intelligence, examining the internal and external factors that may impact ESA;
  • Developing strategic foresight capacity adapted to ESA and the space sector;
  • Deploying, implementing, and delivering strategic foresight projects, aiming to identify the implications of different possible futures for ESA’s strategy, programmes, and policies, help ESA identify blind spots, and build resilience at both programme and Agency levels;
  • Supporting the development of ESA’s strategic plans by identifying strategic challenges and opportunities as well as strategic options, and to develop relevant goals and objectives, in accordance with mid- and long-term priorities at Agency and directorate levels.
  • Building up and maintaining Strategic Foresight networks.

As part of the Strategic Foresight & Planning Office, in the Strategy department, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the development of futures intelligence
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of strategic foresight & planning projects
  • Support to the facilitation of internal and external foresight networks
  • Contribute to the consolidation of material and reporting

Skills & Experience

You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:

  • Master’s degree in business/public administration or a relevant discipline;
  • Be familiar with relevant methods and tools in the domain of competence;
  • Keep abreast of market trends and to ensuring the maximum respect of generally accepted ethical rules of confidentiality, loyalty and impartiality, with a view of maintaining an objective and fruitful relationship with customers and suppliers;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
